Day 58: Chenir bender

I purchased a spring tube coil bender from my jewellers’ supplier the other day. There are five-different-size coil benders in one package and they are supposed to be used to bend aluminum, brass and copper tubes.

In university I learnt the only way to bend copper tube was by filling it up with sand. This new bender is made of spring steel and it is supposed to be bent 360 degree. I have been using these benders in a couple of different sizes to make the “Broken tube” series and enjoying how I can connect with neoprene red string. The left one in the image was made using bender I bent a brass tube 360 degrees. The right one you can see two different tubes were bent in different directions. Whenever I find these kinds of tools I am quite happy and inspired to think of trying something new and different.

얼마전 용수철같은 코일 모양의 튜브 구부리게를 귀금속공예도구 가게에서 구입했다. 다섯개 다른 크기의 코일모양의 구부리게가 한 패키지에 들어있었고 그것들은 알루미늄, 황동 그리고 구리 튜브를 구부리는데 사용되기로 되어있다. 대학에서 구리로 된 튜브를 구부릴 때는 튜브 안을 모래로 가득채워서 구부리는 것이 유일한 방법으로 배웠던 것을 기억한다. 이 새로운 구부리게는 용수철로 만들어져 잇고 360도까지 구부릴 수 있다고 되어있다. 나는 “부서진 튜브” 시리즈를 만드는데 몇가지 다른 사이즈의 구부리게를 사용해왔고 이것들에 빨간 네오프린을 통과시켜 장신구를 완성시키는 것을 즐기고 있다. 아래 이미지의 왼쪽 작업은 황동 튜브를 360도 구부려서 만들었고 오른쪽 것은 두개의 다른 튜브를 다른 방향으로 구부린 것이다. 나는 이런 용구를 발견했을 때마다 참 기분이 좋고 영감을 받는데 이유는 이것들을 사용해 새롭고 특별한 무언가를 시도할 생각때문이다.
