Day 43: Bamboo earrings & pendant

The bamboo flute looking works are made in brass. They are also part of the variation using to make jewellery. The image just occurred to me and I enjoyed making them. Some designs are so simple just like this and I am more than satisfied with them. In other words there are no lumps in this design. I was thinking about green powder coating but gold plating wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I think this work is a good example of intuitive design which objectifies itself through expression. The form, colour and even function, wearability expresses itself without any logical process of explantion. Intuition without expression might be only thought or sense. I am happy that I have made these to see the image in my head is working in the end. Another point I would like to talk about is these simple earrings have a silver hoop. I threaded green bamboos into the hoops and it is so easy to wear. The only thing I haven’t decided is if this will work for the pendant

이 대나무 혹은 피리같이 생긴 두개의 작품은 모두 황동으로 만들어졌다. 그것들은 파이프 구조물의 다른 변형의 한 부분이긴 하였지만 장신구만을 염두에 두고 만들어졌다. 이미지가 그냥 떠 올랐고 나는 그것들을 만들기를 즐겼다. 몇몇 디지인은 그냥 이렇게 아주 간단하고 만족 그 이상이다. 다른 말로 이 디자인에 군더더기는 없다. 초록으로 파우더코팅을 생각했었고 금도금을 하는 것도 나쁜 아이디어는 아니다 생각했었다. 

나는 이 작업이 표현을 통해 자신을 객관화시키는 직관적인 디자인의 좋은 예라고 생각한다. 형태, 색 그리고 그 기능인 착용가능성 그 자체가 설명의 논리적인 과정없이 이뤄지고 있다. 표현없는 직관은 단지 생각이나 감각에 불과하다. 나는 내 머리속의 이미지가 이렇게 결국은 현실로 만들어지는 것을 보는 것에 행복감을 느낀다. 이 간단한 디자인의 귀걸이에 대해 내가 또 말하고 싶은 부분은 은으로 된 후프형태의 귀걸이 이다. 나는 초록의 긴 대나무 형태를 은 후프에 꿰었고 그것이 아주 쉽게 착용성을 완성시켰다. 펜던를 어떻게 완성 시킬지는 좀 더 생각을 해봐야 겠지만.
