Day 23: More pipe construction from east side building
At first the inspiration came from photos of the Mycelium ceiling. In this huge old factory building I noticed the complicated pipe structures under the windows, with the light from the window shining and highlighting these structures. It shows connection, interaction and function. Using the pipes as inspiration I have been making test pieces which I fell have a unique beauty in their construction. There are 5 or 6 different sizes of pipes serving different purposes above my workspace. Many are independently connected to each other and attached onto the wooden trusses with a strong steel cable. On some pipes sprinklers are attached every few meters. Also on trusses are red, blue and black electric cords lined up.
However, today I have another very inspirational encounter of even more complicated pipe constructions outside Mycelium building.
Amazing pipe construction and mural outside Mycelium building
This is the east side of the building, the windows are from bathrooms so obviously the pipes under the windows must be sewer pipes. The powerful mural makes the pipe works look quite extraordinary, which gives me inspiration for using colours on my pipe structures. I definitely need cold connection between the tubes in different colours like using taps and die to make screws or bolts to join the pipes.

처음에는 마이셀리움 빌딩 안의 천장을 찍은 사진으로부터 영감이 왔었다. 이 큰 공장 건물 안에서 창문 아래에 복잡한 파이프 구조물이 창문에서 들어온 빛으로 눈에 띄었고 그 후 창문에서 파이프 구조물로 내 관심은 옮겨졌다. 그것들은 연결, 상호연관 그리고 기능적인 면을 보여주었고 나는 몇개의 샘플을 만들면서 그 구조물 자체에 독특한 아름다움이 있음을 발견하였다. 5~6개의 다른 사이즈의 파이프들이 내 작업실 위의 천장에서 각기 다른 목절을 가지고 작동하고 있고 대부분 개별적으로 연결되어 있으나 강한 철선으로 지붕을 받치는 나무로된 구조물에 부착되어있다. 몇몇 파이프에는 몇 미터 간격으로 스프링클러가 붙어있으며 나무로 된 지붕을 받치는 구조물에는 빨강, 파랑 그리고 검정색의 전선이 일렬로 붙어있었다.
그러나 오늘 나는 마이셀리움 빌딩 바깥쪽의 훨씬 더 복잡하고 많은 파이프 구조물을 우연히 발견하고 또다른 영감을 얻었다.
위의 사진은 건물 동쪽 바깥쪽이며 이 창문들이 화장실 것임을 생각할 때 사진 오른 쪽의 파이프들은 분명히 하수관 파이프들임에 틀림이 없다. 그렇지만 이 얘기를 하는 듯한 이 힘찬 벽화와 함께 파이프들은 너무 근사한 벽의 한부분이 되어 있었다. 파이프에 색을 써야 겠다고 확실히 느꼈으며 각기 다른 색의 튜브를 하나의 작업으로 연결하기 위해서는 땜을 요구하지 않는 연결고리 예를 들어 탭 앤 다이를 이용해 나사와 볼트 같은 것을 만드어 파이프 등을 연결하는 방법이 필요하다는 것을 느꼈다.
