Comprehensive technical drawing for pipe construction : This drawing is for better understanding of complex pipe structures. I looked up some photos on line to see how varied pipe construction can be in industrial sites and how I can use their structural mechanism in my work. This pencil drawing on paper shows 12 different pipe ways, 3~4 various sizes of pipes and 3~5 special component pieces that I need to make.

Before drawing I made a couple of three dimensional test pieces in brass so I could better understand the connection between the pipes. Understanding how to make different pipe connections allows me experiment with different structures for the metal’s surface such as powdercoating, enamelling, oxidising, sandblasting, patina and spray painting. I can now also add varied pipe materials such as silver, plastic and resin.

복잡한 파이프 구조 도안: 이 그림은 파이프로 만들어진 복잡 가능한 구조를 더 잘 이해하기 위해서 만들어졌다. 산업현장에서 파이프 구조물이 얼마나 다양한지와 이런 구조 매커니즘을 내 작은 사이즈의 작업에 어떻게 가져올 수 있는 지를 보기 위해서 몇가지 사진을 인터넷에서 찾아 보았다. 이 종이 위 연필 드로잉은 내가 만들어야 할 12가지 다양한 파이프 길과, 3~4가지 다양한 파이프 사이즈 그리고 3~5 특수 부품 조각 등을 보여주고 있다. 

이 그림을 그리기 이전에 좀더 입체적인 몇가지 실험 황동 파이프 조각들을 만들었고 그러면서 이 파이프들 사이의 연결을 좀 더 이해하게 되었다. 각기 다른 연결구조를 이해하면서 금속에 다양한 표면기술들, 예를 들어 파우더 코팅, 에나멜링, 산화, 분사, 파티나 그리고 페인트 스프레이 등의 여러다른 시도를 해 볼 수 있게 되었다. 이제 황동 외의 다른 재료 예를 들어 은, 플라스틱 혹은 레진으로 된 파이프를 연결해 볼 수 있게 될 것이다.
