Day 11: Ideas of wearability

I did not have wearability in mind at all when I first started to make these pipes. Inspired by the ceiling at Mycelium studios where my workshop is located the creations have created excitement when I go to the studio for the last couple of weeks. However, one clear purpose for this series of work is for the exhibition in September and I have to start to think about how I can present them.

As a professional contemporary jewellery maker over a decade wearability is always one of the important factors to decide design. Naturally this necklace and pendant ideas came to me and I think even though joining them all together means it has lost some of the delicacy of each object, just threading them is one of the ideas which does not look so bad. But still looking for better idea for installation I will make more of them and embrace the joy of creating by utilising more new materials unfamiliar to me.

처음 이 파이프들을 만들기 시작할 때는 장신구로서 착용의 아이디어는 전혀 염두에 두지 않았다. 명백하게 내 작업실이 있는 마이셀리움 스튜디오의 천장에서 영감을 받아 만든 이 창작물들은 지난 몇 주간 나를 작업실로 향하게 하는 원동력이었다. 그러나 이 새 작업들이 만들어지는 하나의 분명한 목적은 9월에 있을 전시회를 위한 것 이므로 어떻게 전시할 것인가를 생각하기 시작하기도 해야한다. 

10년 넘게 전문적으로 형대장신구를 만들어 온 작가로서 착용성은 항상 디자인을 결정하는 중요한 요소들 중의 하나이다. 자연적으로 이 목걸이와 팬던트 아이디어가 떠 올랐고 그냥 줄을 넣어 연결함으로서 하나하나의 구조물이 갖는 섬세함을 잃은 것 같다고도 생각하지만 이것도 하나의 아이디어이며 사실 그렇게 나빠 보이지는 않는다. 하지만 여전히 더 낳은 전시 아이디어를 찾으면서 좀 더 만들어 볼 예정이다. 익숙하지 않은 새 재료를 더 포함시켜서 만드는 즐거움을 만끽할 것이다.
