Day 98: Work 98. The individual quality of creation only through handmade.- lockdown day 7
My work is handmade using a creative process that includes intuition, inspiration and imagination. I use industrially fabricated perforated mildsteel sheet for my main work and inspiration. It is an amazing metal that I saw, solder and clean. I have to wear a mask all the time so I do not inhale its dust, which could damage my lungs. The downside is it damages the skin on my hands and fingers, wears down my shoulder muscle and gives me tennis elbow. It definitely is not a soft, smooth and easy process of handling at all.
The term Handmade creates significant meaning in my life, despite the dirty, destructive and time consuming process of making. It is about creation, journey, and mindfulness. I love the creative mindful time of making at my bench.

After the cutting, sawing, hammering, soldering and cleaning, I take them to an industrial powder coating service. I was lucky enough to find Raglan Powder Coating I have been working with for over 5 years and they do an excellent job. Especially before the stage 4 restrictions!
The last time I placed an order, I experimented with pink and green earrings which are colours I haven’t produced together before, and it turns out they are a great colour combination.

I was quite mesmerised to have made these two new scored and folded bracelets in these fabulous colours. Looking forward to Spring and the time I can go back to the studio I desperately need to brighten up my mind like this work. Handmade + pink + green + hope + flourish

나의 작업은 직관과 영감 그리고 상상력을 포함하는 창조적인 과정으로 모두 손으로 직접 만들어 진다. 또한 나는 산업자재인 천공된 연강을 내 주 작업과 영감을 주는 재료로 사용하고 있다. 이 연강은 톱으로 자르거나, 땜질을 하거나 또 세척을 하는 것이 어렵지는 않은 훌륭한 금속이지만 나는 작업을 하는 동안 항상 마스크를 써서 그 분말이 내 폐로 들어가지 않게 조심해야만 한다. 작업 중 내 손과 손가락 피부를 손상시키고, 어깨근육을 닳게하며, 테니스 엘보 증상을 주는 단점이 있는 결코 말랑말랑하고 부드러우며 쉬운 일이 아닌 과정인 것이다.
이렇게 좀 더럽고, 약간 파괴적이며 시간 또한 오~래 걸리는 작업과정에도 불구하고 “손으로 만든다”는 것은 내 인생에 있어 중요한 의미를 산출한다. 그것은 모두 창작과 그것의 여정 그리고 그 속에 마음으로 부터 깨어있기에 관한 것이다. 나는 내 작업 책상에 앉아 창작에 몰두하는 시간을 특히 사랑한다.
이 자르고, 톱질을 하고, 망치질, 땜질 그리고 세척을 끝낸 작품들을 나는 분체도장을 전문적으로 하는 곳으로 가져간다. Raglan Powder Coating 이라는 업체의 서비스를 주로 사용하는데 지난 5년간 아주 만족할 만한 작업을 내 작품들을 위해 해 주었다. 특히 4단계 봉쇄조치가 끝나기 전에! 지난 번에 귀걸이및 몇가지 다른 작품들을 위한 분체도장 주문 했을 때 나는 분홍색과 초록색을 처음 같이 시도했는데 아주 흡족한 색의 조합이었다.
나는 특히 이 각접기를 한 팔찌들의 두가지 다른 색깔에 매료되었다. 다가올 봄과 작업실로 다시 돌아갈 시간을 기다리며 나는 내 마음을 이처럼 화사하게 밝힐 필요가 있다는 간절함이 있다. 손으로 만들기 + 핑크 + 초록 + 희망 + 번영 의 조합
