Day 97 : Work 97. Lockdown window no2-green. lockdown day 6
There is a lot more time to look out the window from inside in this COVID-19 lockdown period. We see the weather, ordinary buildings over the street, the beautiful park, rain filled street, birds and sky. Some have an extraordinary scenic view that we can only see virtually through Instagram. The amazing tourist photos, the accounts focusing on architecture. While some only see quite ordinary scenes like an array of garbage bins. Whatever that is we may be so used to it, sick of it or feel weird about it.
As I wrote on Day 88: New Lockdown the usual, familiar, good, colourful, active and useful things in our lives have been constrained temporarily and locked with a little view that the square window can offer. In my lockdown window series I can suggest the view we can get from inside through limited square or rectangle but at the same time I will try to express that everything is still there inside but from outside it is divided, separated and fractured therefore it is not exactly what it used to be and now it is something new, reformed, destroyed and restricted.

Lockdown window no.2 (above image) is something I still try to find out the window. Something green, different but familiar to make me feel like it is still ok and I am resilient. The green hexagon pattern structure is somehow connecting inside and outside the window to reflect our thirst for constant connection.
코로나 바이러스 봉쇄조치가 내려진 이 시기에 창으로 밖을 내다볼 기회가 더 많아진다. 날씨, 건너편의 그렇고 그런 건물들, 예쁜 공원, 비가 내리는 거리 그리고 새가 날아가는 하늘 등등을 우리는 본다. 어떤 사람은 그들의 창을 통해 인스타그램의 여행이나 건축물 계정에서나 볼 수 있는 그런 보기드문 경관을 볼 수 있을 것이고 또 어떤 사람은 겨우 줄지어져 있는 쓰레기통들을 봐야하는 사람도 있을 것이다. 그 어떤 것을 보든 우리는 거기에 익숙해지고, 그래서 질리게 되고 결국은 이상한 낯설음을 느끼게 될 것이다.
내가 Day 88: New Lockdown (새로운 봉쇄조치) 에도 썼듯이 우리는 이제 생활 속의 일상적이고, 친근하여 좋게 느껴지며, 화사하고, 활동적이며 그래서 쓸모있었던 것들에서 일시적으로 멀어져 사각의 창문이 허용하는 만큼만 보게 되었다. 내 lockdown window series (봉쇄된 창문 시리즈)에서는 이 한정된 사각형이나 직사각형을 통해 안에서 보게 되는 바깥의 것들과 동시에 안의 모든 것들이 그대로 있음에도 바깥 쪽에서 봤을 때는 모든 것이 나누어지고, 갈라지고, 꺾여 부서져 결국은 새롭게 재형성되고 파괴되며 또한 제한받아 결코 그 이전의 것으로 돌아갈 수 없는 것들을 표현하게 될 것이다.
위의 “봉쇄된 창문 2” 팬던트는 내가 이런 창문을 통해 여전히 발견하고자 하는 것이다. 무언가 푸르고, 다른 듯 익숙하여 아직은 괜찮다, 나는 견딜 수 있다고 여길 수 있게하는 그 어떤 것. 초록의 육각형 패턴의 작은 구조물은 그래서 창의 안쪽과 바깥쪽을 연결하여 그럼에도 불구하고 끊임없이 세상과 연결되고자 하는 우리의 갈구를 표현하고 싶었다.
