“Making jewellery is all about creating wearable unpredicted forms”

Day 82: Work 82. The shadow as extended geometry.

Day 82: Work 82. The shadow as extended geometry.

This is a simple structural brooch I made a couple of weeks ago. It is part of “Repurposed series”, the combination of old pink hexagon structure made long time ago and new black again hexagon structure underneath suggesting shadow of the pink one. I have a couple of images of this work form different angles but I think this short video from Instagram clearly shows my intention the best.

Perforated metal is used in architecture for its energy efficiency and noise protection mainly but depending on the shapes of perforation and the area covered it sometimes displays the whole different dimension with its shadow.

I very often use perforation in 2 different colours for my jewellery and I have been mesmerised by the perforation and its shadow. Using blackened mild steel as another physical form suggesting shadow will be quite exciting new direction of my creation and this brooch is a great outcome. There is another example of this, “The shadow as extended geometry” on my day 77.
