You will see broken and disconnected pipes wherever there are pipe structures. The old pipes have holes and uneven surfaces from wear and tear. Covered with dust it is unknown if they still perform their function and are left disconnected. The dirty old pipe has been left just like that for a while and forgotten. Using it as inspiration I made this extended tubular work to be part of the structure. The surface color and texture of the pipes should look old, worn out and dusty just like the pipes I can see in any building. After patina I used black enamel spray paint on top and finally the surface has been finished.

Broken ribs (Day 59) : Brass, mildsteel, patina and steel.

It is part of the “Broken pipes” series. I finished the first one as a pendant , “Broken pipe and black smoke” and this brooch is made using the same concept and surface techniques. However, instead of three black perforated sheets with screw-cut components symbolising black smoke for the pendant, I made this one with two different colours for the bent and broken pipes with screws for the brooch. Also this time I used two different shades of patina. There are eight short broken pipes all bent and one long one bent in the middle. After I arranged and soldered all of them with the circle boundary they looked like broken ribs.

부서진 파이프와 검은 연기 팬던트: 우리는 파이프 구조물이 있는 어디에서나 깨어지고 연결이 끊긴 파이프들을 볼 수 있다. 세월이 흐르면서 파이프들에 구멍이 나고 표면이 거칠어 지기도 한다. 먼지에 뒤덮여서 그것들은 기능을 잃고 연결이 끊어지게 된다. 더럽고 오래된 파이프는 그렇게 한동안 남겨져 있다가 잊혀지는 것이다. 이것에 영감을 받아서 나는 연장된 튜브형태를 가진 것을 구조물의 일부로 만들어 보았다. 파이프 표면의 색이나 질감은 마치 건물의 파이프들에서 볼 수 있는 것처럼 오래되고, 닳았으며 먼지가 가득 껴있게 보여야 한다. 파티나를 사용한 후 그 위에 에나멜 페인트 스프레이를 가볍게 뿌려 마침내 표면이 완성되었다.

부서진 갈비뼈 팬던트: 부서진 파이프 시리즈의 하나로 “부서진 갈비뼈” 가 되겠다. 시리즈의 처음 것은 팬던트로 “부서진 파이프와 검은 연기” 로 지난주에 완성하였고 이 브로치는 같은 개념과 표면 테크닉으로 만든 것이다. 그렇지만 팬던트에서처럼 세개의 검은 연기를 상징하는 나사못으로 끝이 잘라진 부속품이 아니라 이 브로치에는 두개의 다른색을 가진 굽고 부러진 파이프로 된 나사컷 부속품으로 대신하게 되었다. 또한 이번에는 2개의 다른 파티나를 사용하였다. 여덟개의 짧은 부서지고 굽은 파이프가 원을 둘러서 있고 하나의 길고 구부러진 파이프가 중앙에 있다. 이것들을 정열해서 모두 원에 땜질하고나니 마치 부러진 갈비뼈처럼 보였다.
