The process of making screw cuts using a tap and die set seems delicate and fiddly but the outcome is quite satisfying. Cutting a screw thread on a metal rod or tube allows me to create nuts and bolts. Since they are moveable parts, screws allow for interchangeable elements. It was quite amazing to experiment with these elements and see the outcome which creates playfulness in my new structural pipe designs.

In real pipe structures that I see inside the Mycelium ceiling I notice that these components have functions such as gauges, pressure controllers or on/off switches. But in my art they are ornaments which will be an emotional stop following the pipe connections. They are parts and fittings from old watches which show you time in the past and tell you a story. I have chosen a couple of parts and fittings from the pile to compose one good ornament. At the back of each component I soldered a rod and cut a screw thread.

내 손위의 보석들: 마이셀리움 스튜디오의 천장이나 어디에 있든 진짜 파이프 구조들은 이런 부품들은 눈금재기, 압력제어기 혹은 켜고 끄기의 스위치로 사용되는 기능을 절대적으로 가진다. 그러나 내가 만든 것에는 파이프 구조물의 연결을 따라가다 만나는 감성적으로 쉬어가는 곳으로서 만들어졌다. 이 오래된 시계들의 부품은 지난 시간을 보여주고 이야기를 들려주려 한다. 나는 여기서 좋은 식별력으로 부품들의 더미 속에서 서로 어울리는 것들을 찾아내 아름다운 장식품을 만들어 주는 역할을 하고있다. 그리고 그 뒷부분에 나사컷을 가진 선을 땜해 주었다.
