Day 83: Broken pipe into heart

These two pendants were created after cutting bent tube. I explained how I bent the tube on Day 58. At the end of the heart shape tube (right) there are ready made end bits also bent and a smaller size which means they fit together nicely. The end bits of bigger size pipes are soldered together and they became a good connector to the smaller bent and cut middle tubes. Threading red neoprene through was a good completion to this piece. It looks like a broken shape but with red neoprene thread it completes the line of heart. 

During this new series of works I frequently revisited many components I had made before, which creates energy and adds new stories. This “Broken pipe into Heart” is following these steps. Finding a conceptual and technical connection between and old and new components then creating one simple but agile line to contain a story. Simple design makes me happy, focused and present.

It is different from being lazy and suggests better hope. 

이 두 팬던트는 구부러진 튜브를 자르기 전과 후를 보여주고 있다. Day 58에 어떻게 튜브를 구부렸는지를 설명하였다. 오른쪽의 하트 모양 끝에는 이미 만들어져 있는 끝부분이 있는데 그보다 작은 크기의 구부러진 튜브가 아주 적절하게 맞아들어간다. 이 끝부분의 큰 사이즈의 튜브가 구부러진 채로 잘 땜질되어 있어서 구부러지고 중간이 잘라진 작은 사이즈의 튜브에 좋은 덧붙임이 되고 있다. 빨간 네오프린을 꿰는 것이 이 작품의 최고 적절한 완성이었다. 어떻게 보면 부러진 모양처럼도 보이지만 빨간 네오프린은 하트의 곡선모양을 잘 완성하고 있다. 

이 새로운 시리즈를 만들면서 나는 이전에 이미 만들어진 부속품들은 재방문하기를 반복했는데 그것은 그 나름대로 에너지와 새로운 이야기를 더하기도 한다. 이 “부서진 파이프가 하트가 되어”는 다음의 과정을 따른다. 우선 이미 만들어진 것과 만들어질 부품의 개념적이고 기술적인 연결을 발견한 후 하나의 간단하고 날렵한 라인을 이야기를 담기 위해 창조하는 것이다. 간단한 디자인은 나를 행복하게 하고, 집중하게 하며 그리고 현재에 깨어있게 한다. 이것은 게으른 것과는 다르며 더 나은 희망을 제시한다.
