Day 73 : Work 73. Brick Wall Brooch
It was 2019 Christmas work and part of About Face at courtesy of artist gallery in Sydney. I started to use this brick shape perforated mildsteel and silver and made a series of it.
However, I began to think about the pattens of this perforated sheet again and how I can realise those shape-squares piling up which reminds me of brick wall. In the end I thought I can make something titled, “brick wall” that has definitely got colour, red like bricks. The perforation that has square ends instead of round ends demonstrates more strong sense of geometry so that quite an interesting form and space could be created in the structure. It was very simple form to build but deadly difficult to create accuracy.
I could slowly build up confidence through the research about the images of brick walls and draw some images what kind of work I will be able to create at the end of this process.
Sometimes I am quite appreciated that jewellery is my art form. Only from this small research I can think of quite a few different wearable forms I can create such as brooch, necklace, earrings and bangle. The simple brick wall can be reborn again on the body by loosening the rigidness. Relax and enjoy the moment. Mindfulness!!
